Accessibility Standards and Best Practices
RIRWEB accessibility reviews are designed around recognized accessibility standards and document accessibility practices, including WCAG 2.1 Level AA, WCAG 2.2 Level AA considerations where applicable, PDF/UA accessibility principles where applicable, screen-reader usability, keyboard accessibility, semantic structure, document tagging, reading order, accessible forms, metadata, OCR and searchable text, and human review where automated testing is insufficient.
What automated testing can identify
Automated checks look for machine-detectable issues such as missing document titles, untagged PDFs, missing searchable text, and selected structural problems. Status label: Automated Checks Passed.
What requires human review
Meaningful alternative text, logical reading order, form usability, and equivalent experience often require specialist review. Status label: Manual Review Required.
Website and document accessibility
Website reviews sample public pages for common barriers. Document reviews inventory WordPress Media Library files, with PDF as the primary format, and include Word, Excel, and PowerPoint where present.
Remediation and monitoring
Items that need repair are labeled Remediation Required. Ongoing monitoring looks for new or changed documents after the initial audit.
Passing automated checks does not mean every accessibility requirement has been manually verified.
